Permissions and privacy

Quai works without any permission. Each one unlocks a feature: widgets ask for theirs when you add them, and you turn on Accessibility and Screen Recording with the Allow buttons in Settings.

PermissionWhat it unlocks
AccessibilityApp badges, minimized windows, window lists, click to minimize, and keeping windows clear of the Dock.
Screen RecordingPreviews of minimized windows. Nothing else.
CalendarsThe Calendar widget, read-only.
RemindersThe Reminders widget.
LocationWeather for where you are.
AutomationControlling Music and Spotify, and emptying the Trash.
NotificationsTimers, alarms, Hydration and session alerts.

Settings › About shows the status of each one (Automation only for Music and Spotify, when they’re installed). To change it, open System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Where your data lives

Your Dock, settings and widget data are in ~/Library/Application Support/Quai (Settings › About › Show Data Folder in Finder). Keys for Stripe, Paddle, Shopify, Mollie and Revenue API are kept in your login Keychain.

Quai has no account and no analytics. It only goes online for the widgets you use. The privacy policy lists every service it may contact.
