Arrange your Dock

Quai’s Dock holds apps, folders, files, links, spacers and widgets, in any order you like.

Add things

Right-click an empty part of the Dock, or any item, and open Add: Widget…, Apps…, Folders…, Downloads Stack (while the Dock has none), Files…, Link…, Accordion, Small spacer or Regular spacer.

You can also drag apps, folders and files from Finder, or a link from your browser, straight onto the Dock.

Move and remove

• Drag an item to move it. Drag a running app across the divider to keep it in the Dock.
• Drag an item out of the Dock until it shows Remove, then let go — or right-click it and choose Remove from Dock (Remove Spacer for a spacer).
• Drag a divider to make the whole Dock bigger or smaller.
• ⌘-click an item to show it in Finder.

Apps

Apps bounce when they open and show a dot while they run. Right-click one for its windows, Show in Finder, Hide and Quit — hold ⌥ for Force Quit. Open apps that aren’t kept in the Dock appear after the divider when Show running apps is on.

Folders and stacks

Click a folder to open it in Finder, or click and hold to browse it right from the Dock. Right-click it and choose Customize Folder… to give it a name used only in Quai, a color, a letter, its name under the icon, or Display as stack. On a bottom Dock, a stack fans out its newest items.

Accordions

An accordion keeps apps, widgets, folders, files and links behind a single icon. Click it and they open in a panel above the Dock (beside it on a side Dock), where they work as usual: apps launch, widgets stay live and open their details. Click elsewhere or press Esc to close it.

• To fill one, drop apps, folders or files on its icon or in its panel, or right-click any item in the Dock and choose Move to Accordion. Inside, right-click an item and choose Move to Dock to take it back out.
• Right-click the accordion for Edit Accordion… — a name, a symbol or its first items as the icon, and a color — or Ungroup to put its items back in the Dock.

Links

Choose Add › Link…, enter an address, and pick an icon: the website’s own, or a symbol on a colored tile. Right-click a link to edit or copy it.

Minimized windows and the Trash

Each minimized window gets its own item at the end of the Dock — click it to bring the window back. Drop files on the Trash to move them there, or a disk to eject it.
